Yes! Kristen is a certified provider of Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP).
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a gentle, provider-guided listening intervention that uses specially filtered music to help support regulation of the nervous system. Developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, SSP is designed to help people feel more grounded, less reactive, and better able to connect, communicate, and engage in daily life. It is often used alongside other therapeutic supports and should be delivered by a trained practitioner.
SSP can be provided in person or online.

YES! We offer both options for meeting in-person or online. Meeting online (known as telehealth or telemedicine) enables you and your family to attend your therapy sessions from your computer, tablet, or smartphone in Kansas. Telehealth sessions are not appropriate for all clients and situations. During the intake session, we will determine whether telehealth psychotherapy services are appropriate and provide you with referrals if in-person may better support your situation and if they are available in your area.
Appointments canceled or rescheduled with more than 24 hours in advance will not incur any fees. Appointments canceled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged a Late Cancellation Fee (50% of the original fee). If no notice is given, a No-Show Fee (100% of the original fee) applies.
If you need to make a change, just reach out as soon as possible.

We accept only self-payment (or "self-pay”) for services, which offers several benefits that insurance cannot provide:
-
Additional privacy and agency. When billing insurance, your insurance monitors your treatment progress closely.
-
Diagnostic flexibility. You don’t need a label in order to receive coverage for services.
-
Responsive treatment. We keep our caseloads small so that we can truly focus our time and attention on clients who are an optimal fit for our practice.
If you have a PPO or POS plan, you most likely have Out-Of-Network (OON) benefits. This means your insurance may reimburse you a percentage of any out-of-pocket costs as determined by your plan's coverage. We recommend calling your insurance provider directly to determine what your plan offers. If you choose to use your OON benefits, we can provide you with invoices or superbills directly to you to submit to your insurance company. We do not communicate with insurance companies or panels directly.
-
An estimate of the cost of services, as required by the No Surprises Act, which is part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, is designed to protect clients from receiving unexpected medical bills. The Good Faith Estimate provision of the No Surprises Act is designed to give clients an estimate of how much they’ll be charged for the healthcare services they’ll be receiving, prior to their appointment. Under the No Surprises Act, healthcare providers (including psychotherapists like Kristen and Hilary) must give clients who don't have or use insurance a Good Faith Estimate of the bill medical items and services, including psychotherapy. A Good Faith Estimate of expected charges is available upon scheduling or upon your request.
-
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate once you schedule your first appointment with us so that there are "no surprises" about the potential financial cost of receiving psychotherapy services from us.
-
You have the right to receive an updated or original copy of your existing Good Faith Estimate at any time.
-
Good Faith Estimates are typically generated within 3 business days following your initial FREE telephonic consultation (or sooner, depending on the date of your first scheduled appointment).
-
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
-
We deliver Good Faith Estimates via our secure HIPAA-compliant client portal.
-
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.

Intake paperwork must be completed 24 hours before your initial appointment. During your Diagnostic Evaluation, we’ll review the paperwork together, including legally binding contract information. You will never be asked to sign something we have not explained to you or given you time to review.
First appointments are mainly for us to get to know each other and set goals. We will focus on exploring what support you’re needing, what has caused the stress or challenges in your life, and what goals you want to meet in therapy.
We often recommend that clients start with weekly or every-other-week sessions. That rhythm helps us build momentum. We’ve found that if sessions are spaced more than two weeks apart, there’s often too much to catch up on—and we end up spending most of the time just recapping what’s happened.
Over time, the pace usually changes. Some people feel more grounded, or there’s simply less that needs attention. It really depends on what you’re coming in for.
Therapy doesn’t need to last forever. Most clients find a natural stopping point when things feel more solid. When that happens, we’ll do a thoughtful ending session—reviewing what’s changed and honoring the work you’ve done.
Some clients check back in for tune-up sessions—sometimes even years later. It helps to return to someone who already knows you, which makes it easier to drop back in and get to the heart of things more quickly.
Most of our clients look like they have it together. But inside, they’re carrying more than anyone knows.
We love tracking that nuance—what’s just beneath the surface, what hasn’t had space yet, what still needs tending. Even the parts that say, “You’re being dramatic,” or “Other people have it worse.” Even the part that’s afraid of being too much or not enough.
You're not broken.
You're just ready for something deeper.
No. Psychological testing is primarily administered by licensed psychologists (PhD or PsyD), licensed clinical psychologists (LCP), and under supervision doctoral student-clinicians.
We administer mental health assessments.
A mental health assessment is a broad, holistic evaluation of a person's overall mental state and life context. Psychological testing is a specific, standardized, and scored component used within an assessment to measure specific traits, cognitive abilities, or behaviors.
